So I am spending alot of money as of late on adding calc and alk liquid supplements to my tank. I was thinking of just getting a calcium reactor so I wanted to know who uses which reactor with what success? Do you need to purchase the co2 separate from the reactor or does it all come together? Thanks

you're going to get varying replies from individuals - I recommend you run a quick search off the MR site to see what people are using etc.

As for a reactor system, you can typically buy everything from a vendor (use MR vendors and there are discount opportunities) BUT, you will not get a Co2 tank filled and shipped in the mail - you'll need to buy that tank and find a local gas provider and have it filled. 10lb tank is typically about 20 bucks and a 5lb tank is around 14

I have a dual chamber MRC CR-6 - SPS dominant tank and love my reactor.

I've been using a cal reactor for years and I would recommened it to anyone .it takes a little getting used to how it works but once you dial it in correctly you will love it .no more dosing and super steady alk plus I found that the alk and cal are always balanced out u really never have to check ur cal in the tank .I've used an mtc mini cal for years with great results .I recently upgraded tanks and purchased the vertex rg6 so far I like it better than the mtc just because its easyier to clean .if you have any questions pm me your number ill help you out... def get a reactor to me its a no brainer

Matt in the long run u will save my co2 last over a year and is cheap to fill .but for me its not about saving money .its about having steady and balanced alk , cal and mag .and in my opion there's is no easyier more effective way of doing this than with a cal reactor just think of all the money we spend on coral .if they die from alk swings and never really grow its worthless plus its not fair to the animals .sometimes I feel people forget that theses are living things in our tanks and need the right environment.and a steady one at that

How much you spend on it though in the end?

I got the reactor from a friend of mine for free and had it sitting in the basement for over a year cause I was scared to switch and screw up my tank but it was easy I had jaffica help me with the initial setup but it's not hard I spent a few extra bucks and got the aquarium plants regulator but that was it got running off my apex for safety but my #'s are steady when I was doseing I was at 170 mill's a day of alk and cal and 60 mill's of mag which used to up my salinity so much that I would have to take out 2 gallons of saltwater and dump in 2 gallons of r/o water every 3 or 4 days to keep it at 1.025

I have a deltec fluidized reactor and its just freaking rocks. I don't use a controller just a timer for a few hrs a day.. The amount of Time all depends on the size Of the reactor and the amount of stuff in the tank. Always better to oversize your reactor !
