makes me so mad. I think we're all fans of garlic right? I was told by a fish distributor to not feed too much garlic extract and it can poison them....... Which after thinking for a while just doesn't make sense.... Right? Cause it's absorbed by the food and it can only absorb so much.. And then while doing more research about garlic I find this article in which this guy obviously has a personal agenda vs garlic while proving that garlic works REALLY WELL. He's down talking the greatness of garlic during the whole article and when he brings up scientific examples garlic has been shown to work REALLY WELL. Yet he barely acknowledges that fact and just keeps up with his agenda.

Use the advice of other reefers as it can be very helpful, but in the end, do what works best for you, your system, and your budget.

I wouldn't even attempt to run my tank without a reef controller, but many people have run beautiful, perfect tanks without them for years.

Love garlic, and fish that have been around for 4+ years in my tanks love it too.

Alcohol basically poisons us too, yet we drink it anyway. If we get to treat ourselves with a drink every now and then, who's to say we should deny fish garlic? :)

While I agree with your general sentiment, I don't see where there is anything in that particular article which is nothing more than a rather matter of fact detailing of the actual research regarding the use of garlic--most of which is inconclusive at best-- that is contradictory. There seems to be some marginal evidence that garlic can work as a de-wormer --which he states -- and possibly as an anti-bacterial, but that is not the reason most people use garlic. He is pretty consistent in the claim that there is no evidence that garlic works as an appetite stimulant or as an anti-parasitic in marine fish --the 2 reasons most people do use garlic.

I've been making my blends for over 2 years. I use fresh organic garlic. I have had no negative affects on anything from adding garlic to my blends. As a matter of fact I added two fish that came from a tank infected with ick directly into my DT. I did this intentionally to see how my fish would do. The two exposed fish died within two days. None of my fish had an outbreak of ick, not one. I attribute it to the natural food I make plus the vitamins, antioxiandants and garlic I put into my blends.

Evidence is inconclusive about the benefits of garlic, but there has never ever been anything written that says it's bad.
