That's china town for you. And I thought my place was small. Get what you pay for... I would think yes if you buy smart as in any situation. I have gotten much worse in meeting others when I first started here 3 mos. ago. If you can believe it I bought a dead coral back then and was told it will open in a day or so... still waiting! LOL I just mounted something else on it and its a running joke as my most expensive frag plug!

buy/trade with trusted members. use the reefer rating system. hopefully with the money you spend, you don't also introduce "pests" or spread a bacterial/fungal disease. many do not take the time & make the expense of dipping their livestock. it may well be the most expensive frag you ever bought. caveat emptor!

lmao..amazing how this stupidity is still going but my thread gets shut down. Now what have we learned from this?
1) People like to pick on girls

3) People think everything should be 5% of face value because we are on a forum.
4) People like to contradict themselves.
So it's ok for a guy with terrible tank conditions and half dead livestock to sell coral because his uncle is a direct importer who orders 20+ boxes and gets coral very cheap. It probably won't live but hey at least it's cheap! It's ok because MAYBE he is saving money to upgrade his system (which he probably isn't) but someone who buys from a wholesaler and pays WAY more money is scum and should sell everything at cost because the people of MR are cheap and/or have no money. Makes perfect sense to me. Let me explain something to you guys about THE REAL WORLD. Not everything is so cheap. When people grow it in their tanks and want to give it away that's fine but a vendor usually cannot compete with that type of pricing as it is a lot of the times CHEAPER than wholesale and no one is in business to lose money. So for you guys it may seem expensive because the forums have spoiled you but they are not always making a killing on everything. You guys also do not factor in shipping costs and overhead. Even an "At home vendor" has expenses. The same way you guys complain about your electric bills and how much salt costs,ro cartridges that go extremely fast and test kits etc etc. imagine that for 20,50 or 100 tanks. Stop thinking about the little picture and start thinking about the big one.
I will give you 1 example to put this into perspective. Let's say regular old green and purple frogspawn if someone sells 50 heads because they don't care about it anymore and just want it out for 100-150 bucks that's a great deal sure but it's 10-12 a head from a wholesaler BEFORE shipping. After shipping close to 15 a head so vendors sell for 20 to make some kind of a profit. Making 5 bucks on a frag is not a brutal massacre to the american people it's regular old business. Business like any other where people do it to support their families and earn a living. The same if someone had a grocery store or an electronics store or any other. I'm sure none of the vendors would chime in because they would be afraid to lose business but personally I really don't care what anyone says/thinks. I have seen both ends of the spectrum and I know what things cost. I used to think like you guys until I knew better so maybe this can help quit all the whining. You also have not factored in all the crap that dies periodically sometimes for no reason at all or stuff that arrives dead. Vendors have to eat that cost, anything alive can die at any time just like people. What about even after a dipping there is a flat worm or red bug infestation and they lose 100 colonies of sps? That money has to be made up somewhere doesn't it? Just because it is just a hobby to you guys does not mean it isn't a BUSINESS to others. It can be both don't get me wrong but no one is in business to lose money.

this was an interesting read went real off topic. I'm sorry but i think its shameful for a "hobbyist" to charge way more than other hobbyist for the same coral. Vendors is one thing because of their overhead. The example was $40 pp for Rasta when its going for $10 by most hobbyist. But at the end of the day...

Then some "gutsy gal" had to go and make this about me just like she did this morning. I wasn't talking about me, I wasn't selling anything just giving insight. In my PERSONAL opinion, I basically agree.
The only way someone can overcharge is for someone to overpay!
The items that are free or underpriced are sold as soon as they're posted,
fair priced take a little longer,
overpriced have 5 pages of 'bumps'!
If you think it's too high, pass it or make a counter offer... But remember an insultingly low offer doesn't usually help with the 'negotiation' process. You should try to be fair, so it's a 'win-win' situation, unlike Craigslist or eBay, these are people that you may meet/deal with in the future...

I think people here are very decent. I ve met 6 reefers here in person and they are all very nice and they all have passion and pride with their reef tanks.

I didn't say everyone here wasn't decent I have many personal friends from here and I have met hundreds of people most of which were good experiences. I have helped TONS of people and most were appreciative. I am talking about the people who I was referring to in the threads and people like Miss America here who like to start trouble and make a second screen name to hide behind. (Which is also against site rules and reason for a banning might I add). The quality of people has gone down because so many get fed up with the childish behavior and many of the older members agree. Many don't come on here anymore or as much as they used to. There is still lots of great people here both new and old but 3 years ago was a different ball game is what I'm saying. Considering you only met 6 people I don't think you can be an authority on members here, no offense. I have no issues with anyone on here except for apparently the "stealth hater". Who should be a man and show himself for who he is instead of being a sissy. Even though I am pretty sure I know who he is

funny thing there is a store thats cheaper then any other store and i see people bashing it all the time.. not realizing this is the web, people will see that then not go because you or one of them had a bad day or something didnt work out, then when that store that is very cheap is gone you will complain about the same stuff from a more expensive store, insteed of openly bashing someone or a store try to take it private and work something out.. this is not a cheap hobby at all, and if you find you cant really afford it, then get out of the hobby, dont expect people to just give their stuff away

Seriously tho, I really hate all the drama on here. I agree to what Albano said "can't we all just get along". I'm broke as f**ked. It took me more than a year to get the stuff I wanted for my 125. If it wasn't for the great people I've met on this site, there's no way I would have a tank. Just like every thing in this world, you have to watch who you deal with and know what the he'll you are buying. People shouldn't flip because someone wants to make money. If the price is too high just go to the next thread. Another thing u noticed about this site lately is the marketplace is flooded! I use to go on here a couple of times a day and there was no way I was able to read all the helpful posts. Now it's nothing but for sale threads

I actually have been to more strangers houses during my short stay at mr than my entire life and have met some extremely generous people and I have also had my run ins with the money hungry , it's a toss up really but what in life isn't ?
