I have a 17"x17"x14" acrylic (Custom King) AIO tank and am looking at a stand that is 15"x15" footprint is this a bad idea? My hang on the back filter hangs down more than 14" so I was thinking this stand might be perfect. Thought I would check here first.

yes it can cause a problem, get a small piece of wood and cut to the size of tank then put that ontop of the stand

I wouldnt go anything less then 3/4" for the top
