Can't go wrong with a tradewind. They're a bit pricey but they're built with the same brand equipment that deli meat cases are. They also come with a Ranco controller so all in all its a bad a$$ chiller.

They dont have any digital readouts on the front or anything but they're a high quality unit and don't bother with bells and whistles. Another great point for them is the thermostat is part of the Ranco so if it goes bad or becomes inaccurate through time you can replace the controller and thermostat only unlike the jbj's and others where everything is built in.

I actually have one used that was in service for about 8 months on my 65 if your interested.

Have you tried running fans and/or AC yet? My tank is pretty small and it has a canopy on top.. and I just run the AC more often. I figure it will cost the same as running a chiller and will cool the house down also. Plus my dog is happy the AC is on.

+1 i did the same thing, lowered the ac. the ac will work harder with a chiller anyway.

It seems that I need to get one, the tank temperature was 82.5 yesterday and its not even that hot yet. What brand chiller and model are you using and/ or recommend and why? Thanks.

Sanman I'm in the same boat and on the fence about a chiller. Right now I have the AC going with 3 clip on fans (two on the display and one in the sump hooked up to my Apex). So far the temp has been holding at 78 but I'm worried about July and August.

My electric bill was $65 cheaper since I made the switch from metal halide to LEDs...I have all the hot air from the chiller vented out thru the wall into the hallway

I got a almost new Oceanic 1/10hp for my 20 gal, and thought it would be ok if i upgraded to a bigger tank(57 gal) in the near future...issue is now i ended up buying an 80 gal and i have to get a bigger unit...good thing about it is heats and cools, so i set a temperature and in the winter it will heat the water and keep it at the right temp...i have a 300w heater as back up though

I have a fan inside the canopy, I've been running the AC also and it helped, so far it has been at 79 max. Lets see. Thanks.

I hear you man, it will get very hot soon and I'm a bit worried. We will see, I'll buy one if I have to. The funny thing is that the living room is the only room that gets really warm, everywhere else in the house is nice an cool. Of course, lol.

Definitely recommend a chiller if it gets hot.
I set mines up late, NYC had a heat wave recently,
and I lost 5 corals cause the tank got too hot.
Btw, I use a JBJ 1/5hp, excellent brand.
