Whatever happened to "acid" rain. I remember the days when that was a buzz word. The air is full of all sorts of pollutants. I wouldn't take the chance. If its run off from the roof, then you have shingles, tar, gutters, and dead leafs to consider as well. All things that could affect water quality.

rain water should be filtered any way, so just make ro water.
the ocean naturally filters rain and stream waters. when it rains on the ocean, i think it would be like putting a few ounces in a 100g system.

Here is a pic of a phosphate test I did, from right to left, RO/DI water, my tank water, rain water I collected, & then tap water..
After I did the test on the rain water, I hooked up my NextReef reactor with Seachem MatrixCarbon & Seachem PhosGuard to my water change bucket for 24h just to be safe.
This morning I took it off and back into my sump, & then I added salt to the rain water.

Did you really put rain water into your tank? There are a host of other things in rain water that could be bad or toxic for your live stock. You've only solve for phosphates, what about the other elements?

I have been using RO/DI water, but I'm just testing it out, if I?ll keep doing water changes with rain water all the time? I don't think so, maybe just on and off or not at all.

So you're saying you understand that many problems can be caused by using rainwater, yet you're still willing to sacrifice the health and wellbeing of the animals in your charge? IMO this is irresponsible.
