I just tested my water for TDS and the reading was 38! Is this typical for Manhattan water?

I also tested the water after it ran through my current Aquarium Pharmeceuticals tap water filter (which had already run about 80-100 gallons thru it) and the reading was 0.

I just got a RO/DI, 4 stage system, so I figure I can replace media sometime around 2012...

I just made 3 Gallons with my old Aquarium Pharm filter because my new RO unit arrived with a broken joint.

The water tested 13, which makes me feel better about buying the new RO unit. I guess the 0 I got before was from the water that had been sitting in the canister for a week.

Jersey here. Beat me-Springfield 330 on a normal day, have gone upto 370 on some days. Gotta love it, it if the taxes don't kill me or the air pollution, the water will.

Last time I tested mine it was close to 600. On a well way up in the sticks.

FWIW, high TDS in your water isn't necessarily unhealthy. It's usually just an indicator of high mineral content. And the stuff that we are mainly concerned about removing via RO/DI for our tanks usually won't even show up on a TDS meter (Phosphates, nitrates, silicates).

I have a TDS meter inline with my RODI unit, and its 35 to 55 unflitered, and, of course, 0 after. I live in Suffolk county Long Island.
