4 skimmers in 6 months and I have a winner

1st skimmer was a itech 200 but despite its ability to keep my water column clean it was just crammed under my 57 rimless cabinet leaving very little space for reactors and pumps as it had a sicce psk 2500 pump attached to its side , so it had to go !!....... NEXT!!!!!

Then I got my hands on a cadlight Tia 1150 wow what a skimmer !!! ...... Had it been made to skim a milk gallon or nano tank !!!!! This skimmer was highly rated in the gallons category but had very poor air intake and bubble volume so again it had to go!!!!!.

Then I got myself a swc 120 extreme skimmer from a member on mr and despite its uncanny look alike appearance to the cadlight Tia 1150 this skimmer was much better and really skimmed well .

But the other day I picked up yet another skimmer and it was a impulse buy at a price I could not refuse !!!
It is a sea side aquatics cs1 and after 3 hrs of skimming , this skim was thick enough to spread on a cupcake and this skimmer is here to stay !!! What a great skimmer!!!

All the skimmers used in this thread ran for a minimum of 2 months or more each, in the end it's the one that ran for 3 hrs that has claimed it's new home under my 57 .

I picked up one of these a couple of months ago, the SA CS7, and I love it.
I had to play around with the control knob to find the ideal setting for the water level in my sump.

I need new camera (for sure),this is on only one day, i decide to give up on Bio pellets, then i start dosing Vodka, use the Xport Media

Xport-PO4
from Brightwell ,i dosing(seed) Bac7 (100 ml, direct on Reactor) every day, in one week i drop from 2 PPM NO3 to 0.75 PPM , sound to aggressive, but..........i take the chance.

Is the cup easy to remove? I'm also in a need of a new skimmer, I had an AquaC skimmer and it overflowed into a container and made a mess. I was told about the NWB-110 reef octopus or the SWC 120, but I'm undecided. This Seaside Aquatic skimmer you speak of seems nice, but it is a bit pricey. So can you relate a bit more info, like if the pump is quiet, does it dry skim(mostly goop and not just pulling too much water) and is it easy to take apart for cleaning. Thanks all info if appreciated.

Well to tell u simply its an amazing skimmer, I have to also say that the swc 120 is cheaper but it runs a smaller pump ( atman 1100) at 90 gal rating for light load 70 gal for med load and 55 for heavy

The cs1 runs a sicce syncra 600 pump and its a noticeably larger pump rated for up to 150 gal tanks and pushes much more water and bubbles through the cone.

The cs1 demands a bit more space but if u can fit it , u won't be dissapointed , also it comes with a tapped cup so it has a 8 inch line to empty the collection cup without removing , but both are equally easy to dismantle and work with so whichever you select of the two , just take comfort that you will still end up with a great skimmer, both seriously quiet but the cs1 returns water below the waterline so I think that despite the bigger pump , it is the quieter of the two., any other questions feel free to ask.

That was my other concern, will it fit in fuge, the SWC has a small footprint.
The area I have is 9 x 11 inches, but a corner of that area has a filter sock.
That may cause a problem getting the skimmer in, if I can get past that then
I'm good.

Then I would say the 120 cause the cs1 is 9.5 by 8 and 20 tall

120 is 7.25 -6-and 18 tall

What about the Seaside Aquatics CS 5.5, this one is a bit smaller,
and has a sicce sk 400 pump. I think it might work for me, my tank is
a 40 breeder, I don't need anything to big.

So I bought the seaside aquatics skimmer cs7, and I got it in and so far it's working great. I mean it started to work immediately, and it's extremely quiet. Now I have to fine tune it, and see how gunky it gets.

How did you adjust it, mine is foaming up a lot ... I might have bigger version but all similar I guess

I have it tuned so that the bubbles only
go the middle of the neck of the collection cup.
It does bubble like crazy, but I started low
and slow at first.

I've had a really good experience with my SA CS 7. It's a great skimmer. I've had it running for a few months now. You can control the bubbles by turning or rotating the long tube which in turn will regulate the air flow/bubble strength. I think it goes from 1 to 5 on both sides. You need to ensure your water level stays between 25-27cm for optimal skimming. The drain for the skim cup is located at the bottom of the cup, so you can drain skimmate directly into a 2 liter Soda bottle.
I don't have an ATO, so I top off by hand and sometimes have to regulate the bubbles manually by adjusting the knob when I don't have RODI on hand.
