First off how big was this tank? Second, can you be more specific on the kinds of fish you kept? There are many different varieties of wrasses and cardinals, did you mean platinum clowns, and I cannot find any info on diamond hobies or dirt fish can you supply me other possible names?

Only thing I hear kills everything is marine velvet I think it's called. I'm no expert but maybe it could be the cause.

You are correct it is not what he needs, however due to that fact that not all fish get along together and the individual requirements for each species changes even between two species from the same genus Id say the names are very important how else could I eliminate tank size and fish compatability as possible factors for his large die-off? If you have a better suggetstion on where to start this invesigation Id love to hear it but if not do not criticize my method, I do this professionally.

If your fish had ick. You should wait 6-12 weeks before adding any new fish. If this happened to me I would go the full 12 weeks before adding any new fish. I would also look into setting up a QT system.

Based on the info you provided, it sounds like you recently added (within the last month or so?) new fish. Where were these fish from? Were the QTed before going into your system?

My bet it that one of the fish you added has velvet. This is a VERY deadly waterborne disease that will kill all your fish in a very short time.

I recently had the same thing happen in my Nuvo 16. I learnt the hard way and unfortunately you did too. Go to petco, buy a 10 gallon tank with a hob filter and heater for $30 total and QT your fish. It's such a small investment and will prevent this from happening it the future.

Sorry for your loss and hang in there!!

ya you need to pump the breaks homie how bout you list tank size equipment, take a picture ect.

for starters if the tank started in April it seems a little soon to have so many fish, especially sifting gobies that need live sand to eat from.

it sounds like your had some type of cycle / spike and killed all fish most likely amonia. it may not have been ick if the ammo/nitrite was that high.. with the addition of dead fish. they were scratching because it burned.

take the 72 days let the tank lay fallow no fish. read read read and ask question here on MR before you buy

Sometimes fish have ich or other diseases when you buy them. That's why quarantine tanks are important. If a new fish is in the QT tank and has something wrong with it, you can treat it and not have a problem with other fish catching it. Ich is a parasite and it spreads to all the fish in a tank.

Do u keep qt tanks running all the time

Many of us do this differently. I usually take water from dt during a water change and place in 10g tank. I only setup qt tank when I know I will be going to a Lfs or buying from another member. Simple tank, heater,PVC fittings for fish to hide in, and hang on back filter. ( this has also helped me not stop at store on way home too often)
I only medicate if I see something to warrant it. Some medicate qt tanks for certain amount of time regardless of seeing anything with fish or not. Many good threads on qt process here or online. I have lost a few fish in qt tank and its annoying, but in bigger picture its best. Good luck
