Frozen food defrosted!!!

I made a big mistake. I pilled up on frozen food since Im going aggressive in my tank. I but frozen prawn, frozen Mysis and jumbo Mysis, frozen clams on shell and silverside.


I bought the large sizes of each. :0/


This stuff stayed outside the fridge since yesterday. Its all defrosted. But none of them smell bad at all. Still smells fresh. Must I toss it? Or can I put back in freezer and use?

I think you will be fine. Just feed a little to one fish at a time. Do this until you become confident that the food is good. Was it in a air conditioned room or a room which was 100 degrees?

Good point. It was in central air set at 74 degrees all day. And I bet it spent some time defrosting as well.

I think trying a little bit is good idea, be shame if it goes to waste. Im sure someone else has done same and will chime in. I think something similar had to paul b recently

if it reached room temp i would toss it. if it just defrosted and was still cold, i would refreeze and use it.

I've made that mistake more than once. I tossed the food. I figure, better safe than sorry.

+1 I've done this with frozen cubes of pe mysis and I've been using them for a couple of months now with no problems

It def reached 74 degrees. But smells fresh. This sucks!!!!

I would not take a chance. I tossed all my frozen food after Sandy. Just buy want you can use. This way the loses will be smaller and you now have an excuse to go to the pets store.

I figured since these fish feast on other fishes rotting carcus and ive even seen them eat or atleats take in their mouths other fishes poop that I should be okay. Specially since stuff smelled good. But I guess better safe.

If I leave chicken out to defrost and stop at Wendy's on my way home forgetting about the chicken that's been sitting out while I'm working I won't eat it the day after ....I'm a picky eater and treat my fish the same way

I would use it if it doesn't stink. If it was bad fish won't eat it. If you don't want to feed it to the fish, send the clams to me and I will eat them. :tongue1:

In fact I was thinking about defrosting and rinsing a bunch of mysis and putting it in a squeeze bottle so I can keep it in fridge and just squirt it into tank when I feed in stead of having to defrost and rinse it every day sounds lazy but with new house and 1 yr old its hard to find the time
