Death By Super Glue

Last night I was attaching an anthelia frag to my rocks and a drop of the super glue fell into the tank, my small Green Reef Chromis went straight for it trying to eat it, not a good idea, his mouth was glued shut. :bablefish So I noticed it right away and I reached in and caught the fish with my hand, i couldn't belive it, i felt like he was letting me catch him so i could take the glue off, so i caught him and took the glue off his mouth, I observed him for 2 min. and he seemed fine, feeding time I noticed he wasn't good, he was trying to eat but his mouth was totally glued, i guess when he bit into it, it went inside his mouth too, so again I caught the fish with my hands, and used a sharp knife i use to frag corals to slit his mouth open again but the glue was too hard already, I didn't know what to do so I removed him from the tank and send him to the big ocean in the sky............

ACK!!! Sorry man. I've read other posts where people have had that happen to their tangs. Most of them left the fish be in the tank and the glue worked itself loose in a few days.

Damn Maybe i should of done that. but seeing it trying to eat so frantically i couldn't see him suffer

it's a tough call.

If this happens in the future to anybody else give the fish time to recover.
They can go for a while without eating, and the glue may fall off in time.
Cyanoacrylate glue is used in operations on people, so it will not hurt the fish. As long as they can survive till the glue sloughs off they will be okay.

its happened to me a few times. the fish get it off quicker than you think. super glue is pretty harmless.

Whats even more amzing is he let you catch him not 1x but 2x's. I have 3 of them in my tank I've been trying to get rid of but and they won't even let you loook at them with out darting behind a rock.

what type of glue are you using (brand) unless you put tons of glue it should dip off ,also ,you should dipp the frag with glue in a bucket of tank water this way the glue get a bit stiff

Wow, that was the wrong choice. I think death came by you and not the glue, lol, sorry. Next time give nature the opportunity to work.

same thing had happened to me and my clownfish... everyone that i told laughed at me, i ended up having to take the whole tank apart to take him out, and when i got him out the glue came right off, i guess the glue was already dry and it just fell into the tank, the clownfish ended up dieing the next week.....

i think the silm on the fish doest let the glue set in properly ..so it set for a few hrs or days and then falls off ,,just like if you got glue on your hand ,,if you leave for a day or so it will just peel off due to the oils ,,JMO
