The new Waveline generations are coming out, but no one knows exactly when. I was able to order one of these DC-6000's, so these might be the first types to show up. I'm also unsure if this is a Gen 1 Waveline rebadge, or if it offers the same types of upgrades as the upcoming Gen 2. We'll see.

This is the only place I see selling them anywhere right now, unless you order directly from Jebao.

I'm interested to see how this will be controlled by my Reef Angel, as I already have another Jebao cable from them ready for it. Return pump variable flow perhaps? Feed mode/night ramping?

The 6000, 9000, and 12000 are all 2nd generation. The first generation were 5000, 8000, 1000. The model number change are consistent with the flow increase due to the innovating design of enclosed impeller. It's not Jebao who made them-it's another OEM making most of these similar pumps with minor costuming for couple different brands currently available in USA such changing to titanium screws or color of the hull and so forth.

AKA charging $200+ for the same product, when they can be had for 1/4th the price.

Am I the only one that thinks this is wrong?!?!

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't like paying retail for most products but at the same time, do patents not mean anything anymore these days or is Jebao the only company that has found a way to get away with it?

How would you copy something and release it before the "original" it was copied from even came out? What "patent" do you think is in question, a design patent? I think it would be very difficult to get a utility patent on a DC water pump on any of these, unlike what Ecotech has for the Vortech.

Truth is, the Waveline, Speedwave, Diablo, and Jebaos are all most likely coming from the same OEM manufacturer/ers in China, except that slight changes are made per each companies specs. The Jebao pumps just happen to not have the $200 markup attached to them (business costs, etc). You effectively cut out the middleman going with Jebao, and that is fine by me. Don't expect the same level of customer service however, but again, that is fine by me for the large price difference if the quality is there.

What worries me a bit, is that there are a few reports of malfunctioning Wavelines already. That would mean that there is a chance these could possibly have the same issues. Mine is almost here to test with, but I'll still keep my Quiet One 5000 as a backup just in case.

You lost me.

Who has a patent on these pumps in US? I don't think the Chinese ORIGINAL DESIGNER of this pump has filed a patent on them to lock out anyone else in the US to sell(or make) them. However, I do think, soon, a wise US company will copy the idea and slightly change it and file for a patent(if the new changes can be pateneted) to lock out competitors.

These DC pumps are derived from pond/fountain DC pumps which mostly designed, manufactured in Asia. Asian aquarists are not big in saltwater so only recently did they start to make them for SW application, but DC pumps with controllers are nothing new to aquatic equipment manufacturers and FW world.

The patent issues were from Tunze who sent cease and desist letters to US retailers to stop distribution in the US. No patent litigation has been made afaik which should tell you something regarding the merits of the patent. These are not the power heads that were in question.

Its not a matter of pump design but even just the name. I mean isnt there some rule where at least that cant be the same. Is jebao really that stupid of a company to come up with a model name of their own rather than just openly taking the name another company used. Figure this, if you look up dc-6000 and any other model, not only will you get the original speedwave/waveline pumps but with it, this knockoff company will come up simply cuz they had to steal the name too. Idk anything about marketing but aren't there any business ethics, if any at all these days?

And same goes for the circulation pumps, not only did they copy the design and controllability from 2 companies but they basically took the same name too, only thing is they flipped an "M" and made it a "W". I'm sure soon enough we'll be seeing wp10 and wp60 and probably some sort of WP-40M EZ instead of the well known MP-40W ES

I think you need to do more research before you start slinging accusations. Consider who makes Wavelines pumps for example...

(I am not picking sides or defending any particular company just stating that there are gross inaccuracies to your information from which you are jumping to conclusions.)

Reefs,

Now I start to get your point. But first Waveline is not the original maker of the pumps. Their supplier make the pump and OEM to MOST other aquatics makers include Waveline. So the name convention is transferred from the original maker. As far as I heard, Bubble king is the only company who re-label these pumps with their Dragon XXX away from the original naming convention and did minor changes such as titanium screws. WP stands for "W"ave "P"ump or "W"ave "P"owerhead which is an industry standard to many other manufacturers and countries. For example, SUNSUN, ReSUN, JeBao, Boyoun most use this convention. There are new companies starting to use the prefix WM to signify Wave Maker.

You cannot argue that the suffix of 40, 60, and such as a copy either. because these numbers are systematic approach to indicate the power.

so WP-25 means Wave Pump 25W, WP-40 means Wave Pump 40W, WP-60 means Wave Pump 60W

BTW, can someone enlighten me what MP stands for, so I can relate the naming convention of Vortec? I guess it has to deal with magnetics. Can Vortec chime in for this?

So I went to set mine up and realized that there is no filter/strainer for the intake. I asked Jebao about this and they said they don't send unless requested. So I guess they have them but for some reason don't include them.
