Is it ok to add a bag of sand to an established tank? I'd like to do it just for esthetics. The front of my tank could use a little dressing up.

Yes you can,but add it 1 cup at a time over a course of a month so it doesn't disturb the benificial bacteria already established in your sandbed

You can add sand to and existing display with out a problem. I added two bags of tropic Eden sand and everything went well. The issue is when adding there will be cloudy water for a period of time. It won't disturb the bacteria

Use a 3ft piece of 1" pvc with a funnel so you have more control of where it goes. Never tried it myself. Just something I thought of while browsing.

1) Turn of flow
2) get 2" PVC length (3')
3) Get Sand (wet or dry)
4) Put pipe in desired area flush with sandbed
5) Pour new sand into pipe (don't put more than you're willing to disperse in that area)
5) Lift pipe 1/4" above sand bed and move it slowly in the area you want to disperse sand.
6) I would not put more than 2-4 lbs at a time in one area.

I've done this when adding sand, works awesome. Minimal clouding.
