I have the compact reef devil skimmer and the pump that they provide which feeds the skimmer is sucking more water on that side of my sump compared to the other side which feeds water back into the tank by a MAG7. Any ideas why?

Attempting to "match" flows by 2 pumps can lead to flooding or one of the pumps running dry. Can you provide a picture of your sump clearly showing how the baffles are arranged?

you might want to put taller baffles on that sump. it will allow for more water volume. from what i see the tank is 1/4 full. my sump is almost 3/4 full because i have very tall baffles. and yes it holds water from the display if the return shuts off.

Not only that, Scarf. It looks like the rightmost baffle is raised, allowing water to flow underneath. That means the sump's water level is being set by the 2nd baffle which is even shorter.

the pump on the righthand side is the Cat1800 that came with the reef devil and feeds the skimmer. The mag 7 on the left returns to my tank. The skimmer returns into the left chamber its drilled in which returns to the tank by the MAG7.

just move the skimmer pump into the left chamber (like cali said) that will take care of the water level you don't need to change your baffles.

also you may want to put an elbow on the skimmers return to control the level of the skimmer. You may notice that your skimmer level isn't consistent. That’s because you water level in the sump is effecting the skimmer.
