skimmers

hello all. im looking for ideas on how to build a 4' skimmer. if any of you have building plans and pics can you please share them. thank you for any help. diameter is 4".

If you're thinking about a 4' skimmer you may want to consider a larger diameter - most DIY plans show 6" to 8" in diameter for a skimmere that tall - more contact time.

ok what would be the best height for a 4" diam? whats the pros and cons for a wooden air stone? just for the bubbles and a pump just for motion.

IMO airstone is old school and a pain in the arse - have to take em out, change em all the time etc. I have found in my readins that guys who DIY an airstone style skimmer often wind up bying new or making it diffierently.

I would go with a venturi style (MAzzi) or air intake tecnique with needle wheel impeller for the skimmer - 4" doesn't really allow that much contact time and making it taller, IMO does increase contact time, but you get more efficiency with a 36" at 6-8"
