Flamboyant cuttle fish

Here's a pic of them at the Drs foster and smith booth at MACNA FL 2013. I was told that they are being breed by REEF GEN for sale at liveaquaria.com.

These things are awesome in a species tank and seem to get along in groups. They like open sand bottoms with coconut shell huts to hide in. Cuttlefish village anyone?

Apparently they have a very short life span!

Yes they do luckily they're not escape artists like octopus. I suppose it'd be a village with a high turnover rate? They need live food usually and besides watching them hunt is the best part.

These are probably my favorite ceph. I wonder if they will sell eggs, hatchlings or both. Would love to try some of these some day. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if they could be had locally, since Manhattan Aquariums also work with them. I guess the low demand would make them not want to stock them, but having them shipped with frags and fish could probably be a possibility.

Country critters as well. It's where I got my experience with them. I got them laying eggs but no hatchlings :-(

Wild caught Flamboyants are uncommon bordering on rare, but reasonably available if you ask around and look hard enough. These captive bred ones though have never been available to the public before. I would expect this strain to yield good results to an experienced ceph keeper - last time I was at Riverhead there were hundreds if not thousands of eggs laid ON EXHIBIT, not just in the hatchery. Breeding and shipping on a commercial scale is a whole different beast, but I would expect (barring any kind of exclusive deal) that these cuttles should be available relatively soon at any LFS that carries ReefGen products.
