Went to look at my tank at night and noticed that my nasarius snails have gone crazy , I had 7 on the left glass , 21 on the front and about another 15 or so on the right glass, I took some out and put them into my nano tank and they are fine and dandy .

Tonight I go back lmfao and there had to be 40 or more throughout the tank and countless little baby ones , what causes them to breed like this ??

Never had this many before , it's like a nursery .

I used to have around 40. Then I got a copperband butterfly. I have fewer Nassarius now.

:eat:

In all seriousness, I actually love the Nass snails. They are like zombies rising from below, periscope first, when food hits the sand. I used to have to ward them off with a stick when I fed my LPS. They'd steal the food from my plates, chalices, acans etc before they could slurp them down.

I wonder if now that my CBB enjoys mostly all forms of frozen food, if I can put some nass back and he won't poke at them. Hmm.

I am prepping my reefcleaners or affordable aquatics order and I was debating getting these snails but was advised against it. Was told they don't really do much and love to clog up plumbing. What are your thoughts? Also I keep shrimp to get the leftovers so seeing as how they don't eat algae not sure what role they would play.

Nassarius snails don't eat algae. That's probably why some people think they are useless. They do, however demolish anything meaty. Food, poop, dead stuff, etc. Any time I've lost a fish or a clam they've been all over it. And yeah, they just...appear out of no where when I feed. Great sense of smell. Good sand mixers too.

Zombie snails!
