From what I have heard, Elegance coral is difficult to keep. Mine has quadrupled in size in the same year. He was probably 2x3" when I got him (half stung dead from a Octospawn. He's done quite nice in my system pretty effortlessly. I attribute any success I have to that little fuge.

I use Reef Crystals. (Started to vinegar dose for the last month, stopped 1 1/2 weeks ago because I started dosing Kent Tech M to fight a nasty bryopsis outbreak). I dont usually dose Mg, Ca or Alk. Water changes from every week to every month. TLF 150 reactor w/rowaphos. DIY carbon reactor. No testing usually (only since I'm trying to monitor Mg levels). Like I said, any success my system has had hasn't been from my spectacular reef keeping abilities. It must be from the refugium that happened by accident.

The macros I grow are EXTREMELY invasive. But excellent for nutrient export. Caulerpa Prolifera & Serrulata. I got them on a frag from the LFS. I thought, no big deal, the tank could use a little vegetation...NOT! It very quickly took over my 72bf. So, an upgrade was next. The rock from my 72bf DT became the rock and macros for the refugium. 99% of the rock in my current 140g DT is DIY. My stupidity and misfortune became my best friend. "The Little Fuge That Could"

So basically the macros are conatined in your fuge, you don't keep anymore in you dt. How do you keep in check, occasional clean up of excess?
