It seems like every month their a new breed of clownfish. Thanks to Sea and Reef and ORA and SA, ect. Interesting how many different names given to these fish. Picasso and Snowflakes, Phantoms, Black Ice, Blizzards, Davinci, Wyoming, ect. With all these new exotic mixed breeds. Are they worth the high end Price. For me buying Rods onyx was my first. Not only they still my favorite. I just like original white pattern which onyx still kept. Today are we forgetting the original clownfish.

A lot these Clowns aren't formed correctly, that have small or shorter heads and body, not to mention health problems, and these are the Clowns that actually make it to the market. With populations of most of these Clowns being very small there is a lot of inbreeding, sister/brother or in some case brother/mother, which in turn are then taken and used to create different type or patterns of Clowns. Then again a lot of these "issues" are used as marketing tools in the driving up of prices. Personally I like the original Clowns, especially when they're fully grown out and have their adult colors, which is something that most people don't see when going to buy a pair, as Juv are usually for sale. Similar a lot of these designer Clowns will most likely look different when they're fully grown out, and not always for the better.

its unnatural selection at its worst. Its capitalism at its worst. Basically we in the hobby mad a market for these aberrations. These fish while sometimes nice to look at are still mutations that probably could not survive in nature. We pay a crazy rate for fish that are way overbred. Call me a purist but you will never see a genetic reject in my tank.

It wasn't long ago that clownfish breeders would cull the 'not normal' colorations that the offspring would display. They were genetic misfits so to speak. Now it's a huge business

FYI, Saltwater Critters does not sell livestock, so I'm not passing judgement on anyone who does.

It's our fault !! I'm even guilty , I have a black clown and a classic orange clown , and as long as we continue to want these oddities , then they will continue to inbreed and make these different strains of clowns , and as long as they are solely created by one person who sticks his name on them , they will only be sold by that person at an astronomical price , simple supply and demand ! Some of these fish even swim awkwardly ! But this is the craze we live in , someday they will have reef safe triggers and tangs that burry themselves in the sand like a wrasse lol keep going you mad scientists .

In my eyes nothing beats a pair of good old true perculas. They were my first fish in the hobby and were to this day the most beautiful with the most vibrant colors. Their orange was almost fluorescent they were so bright. They were also super healthy.

I like black ice clowns as well but all these other crazy morphs I'm not feelin at all. Given the choice of black ice and true percs the black ice would still be available after I made my choice.

Mother natures taste and abilities trump ALL humans.
