live black sand? didn't know that was out there, I had used dry bags of gray coast calcite and tahitian moon sand before. If the live black sand is the same as the tahitian moon, then it seemed to be silicate based, from the vocanic rock that weathered over time. Gray coast calcite didn't seem to have the softness of the usual white or pink reef sand, either, felt like gray gravel.

I used the "live black sand" in a tank.
1st, the sand isnt a "sand" it's tiny rocks.
2nd, the tiny rocks are magnetic! They stick to any magnet and have scratched my glass doing so before I realized what was going on.
Tahitian moon is not a PH buffing sand, fyi
Best of luck.
