i went with both. added 2 bags each and mixed them up really well before added my live stock. It gives your tank a way different appearance compared to the average reef aquarium. Also at night, the white sand specs out through the black which gives an awesome effect! good luck

Well thats a decision you have to make. Do you want your SPS to have a extremely clean tank to grow fast and colorful or have wrasses that sleep in the sand. I have wrasses and they do not mind no sand. They swim all day eat like pigs and when lights are off they find a place to sleep. Or you can get a small tubberware like many people do and hide it behind the rocks with some sand in it. Or get sand and fight nitrates and PO4 which is fine for softies and LPS but not for SPS especially acros. The OP wanted to know about sand in a dominant SPS tank and more acros not about his wrasses and how they will do in each type of sand. This is the best answer i can give from all the research i did on having a flourishing acro tank

I'm sorry duke all he asked what color sand cause he wants to get it soon. I have an SPS dominant tank and probably the nicest tank in Long Island as I'm told by a lot of professionals had sand from the beginning and never had a problem with nitrates and phosphates cause its maintained properly. Don't take it personal it was just a question

Didnt realize i wrote something nasty? What am I taking personally? And i didnt say you cant have a nice SPS tank with sand,Im sure your tank is nice, But to choose between a easier way to control no3 and po4 vs the harder way starting a new tank i choose the easier way :) I lost a bunch of acros that i feel was from my sandbed realeasing po4 or some type of bacteria. Tusi didnt you just have the same thing happen to you? You couldnt figure it out either. And i have read of many expierenced SPS keepers have the same problems and the main culprit was something leaching from a old sand bed. Your choice

so ive taken all your input into consideration and i cam to this conclusion i will run mostly BB what my plan is going to be is to place all my live rock where i want it and then just place just enough fiji pink to just lightly cover the bottom of the tank as i calculated it out it wont even be 1/3" thick it will literally be just a light sanding to cover over the glass this way it shouldnt affect the NO3 or PO4
