Sooo i had a few hours alone to myself today before work and figured id start building my new 65g tank canopy.
Not having one on the tank made it hard for my granny to enjoy looking at it (hard for everyone else aswell i guess)lol
It was either me building one orrr buying her a pair of sunglasses :Blurp:
Not even 1/2 way done yet still need to add the top, the trim to the top, wanna cut out a long rectangle for a hinged door with a little handle in the front so i can feed easy, and paint it all.

Im not sure what kind of paint is safe. Do i just use any paint or is there a specific kind i should go with ?? im nervous condensation will accumulate on the inside of the canopy and drip back in to the tank or something and kill everything. should i not paint the inside ?? but then im thinking if i dont use a water proof/weather proof kinda paint on it it'll warp cuz of the salt water. :help:
Any advice would be appreciated !!

First time building a canopy and not finished yet so dont be to rough on me pleaseee ... im tryingggg lol

Looks better than some I have seen

That is an open top canopy, condensation wont be an issue

Use wood black paint with whatever gloss u prefer, use poly to protect, allow to dry and you will be fine

When making the door use the right hinges the first time and dont make it too long or it may hang/sag/not leveled

i would use white gloss not black :)

I'm with tony on this... I would paint the inside white for a few reason (as stated before)1 easier to notice dirt ...2-white reflects the light better...and paint the outside black to match the stand..and with the left over black paint you can paint over the black stand(I seen it so I know there are scratches) lol

You have led lights, you dont need to worry about reflection, beam is aimed downwards.

Reflection issues is for bulbs other than leds, unless you feel you had an issue with those light fixtures before you moved them over the 65g.

You could paint white the inside and black the outside if you want to but dont do it thinking you need a reflector.

You may want to consider a black cloth or plastic curtain in the back. I assume the rear does not have a solid panel because of the lights, you would be able to put the canopy in place. Consider a curtain that you can put in place and easily remove once the canopy is in place to prevent the leak of light in the rear and concentrate more focus on the tank itself, your eyes will get use to the leak but when watching movies in the dark the light leak can get annoying.

So when you have optics it still aims the beam downwards... Where do you get your information and knowledge from?.....
and a black cloth or plastic curtain, yea thats a great looking tank .... I think Gab knows what to do at this point :).

Oh boy

The cloth is for the rear as in no one sees it!!!!

Those led fixtures are hung with out canopies 99% of the time but if you feel led fixtures now need additional reflection than I wont argue with you, u r a mod for a reason right....

Unsubscribing to stop wasting my time with reflector opinions

Best of luck with the canopy
