South down sand

Hi folks Im looking to buy a bag of sand. Has anyone have a recent Home depot South down sighting. I'd like to know when and where.

Southdown sand spotted at Homedepot today. I just picked up 3 bags of Southdown at the Homedepot in 131-35 Avery Ave. Flushing, NY 11355.

They have about 2 palet full of Southdown hmmm about 40 bags. They are located in the back of the greenhouse plant dept.

I just went there 2 days ago, but i can't any of them, do them name Southdown or some other name, because i ask the person over there, they so me something name "quickerrt" play sand! can someone correct me if i'm wrong, Southdown is the name or just the type?

The name is Southdown Tropical Play sand usually found in the gardening /landscaping dept. near the mulch and other bagged products.

Also guys, don't forget that they (Southdown) are now labeleing these bags "not safe for reef use". They are catching on and it is perfectly safe - so, I wouldn't worry about it.

It's still labeled Southdown by Newcastle. Same bag as above picture. They are not near the quickerrt product which is near the lumber dept. They are located in the greenhouse plant dept. As you enter the store listed above turn right and head through the automatic doors to the plant dept. The palet of Southdown is located in the back.

I've read on other boards that some people have had a problem with the Southdown sand becoming a hard coating on tanks or containers when mixed with water. You may want to add water to a sample from each bag just to test it out before filling your tank.

who says it's safe? I am not doubting anyone, but is there some marine experts who have said "Yes, it is safe." I don't mean to be rude but I dont want to take the advice of hobbyists as fact.

do a search on reefcentral.com. you'll be sure to find more than enough "fact" or at least links to factual articals of the composition of southdown. the advice of hobbists is just that. so you can take our experiences with a grain of salt and do your own research so you can feel more confident about using it. i've used it in my tank since day one without problems, until i added ESTES sand (which is ment for aquarium use).

Do a look on RC for Randy Holmes-Farley, he a chemist and does alot of research on different things for the marine aquarium. Or go to his site and do a search on SouthDown Play Sand in the article:

People have been using South Down for years and it's very safe. It's the same sand that you would get if you buy Carbi-sand or one of the other sands that are offer for sale through your lfs but at a faction of the cost.

By the way I would just like to know what your definition of "marine experts" is because there are alot of "hobbyists" that are very knoweglable.
