my occelaris spawned today. my kids are driving me nuts to raise them. what are the chances that any will survive in my 125? will parents protect them from cleaner shrimp? will bartlett anthias eat them?
From the first spawn to the last, after the 7th, 8th or 9th day get in the habit to pull out the pot, and immediately put in a new pot, so they get use laying the eggs in the same place. Yes, you need to have the parents in a separate 10G with no sand, no rocks just a pot and min flow. Get a book; there are forums with great breeding information.
Joe at LI aquarium uses a great method of covering the eggs the night before the hatch with a type of suction. When they hatch the fry get sucked into a separate tank where they have rotifers being fed to them. He showed us pics at LIRA seemed real cool
yes - i read it's a lot of work, but my girls wanted to see them hatch. upon closer inspection, we can see the eyes. they must've spawned a while ago. i just didn't realize the male was so protective when i tried to feed their host rbta. funny, my daughter's fancy guppies had 16 babies last weekend. my girls were so excited when i showed them - like straight out of "finding nemo!" i hope we get to see more spawns. thanks for the info everyone...
clowns just spawned again. this time there were even more eggs. my kids were so excited watching them do their thang - they weren't shy about the "reef porn." :lol2:
