I like the 'outside the box' thinking Brett. I'm just not so sure the design is optimal. The water being discharged from the skimmer is returning into the same chamber as the water coming from the overflow (not terrible). But the overflow to the 'alley' for flow around is not ideal for a bubble trap. The concept of over > under > over for the traditional trap releases bubble at two points, the 'over' baffle.

Also, not sure yet how difficult it will be to maintain the water level in the sump with this design. Still trying to think it through. . It's late, I'm tired, in pain and want to go to sleep now. :(

Bad Coffee,

Can you add some baffles in 10gal AGA? How much would that cost?

Thanks

lunner, in order for the baffles to work as a bubble trap, you need to have three of them. The one on the left in your diagram needs to be an 'over' baffle, going to an under then an over baffle.

Also, the way you have the baffles on the right needs to be the same over>under>over setup. The way you have it, the rightmost baffle serves no purpose. (I know you asked Mr. Coffee for his input. I just figured I'd chime in)

Lunner, Russ is correct. you either need to lose the first baffles or add another set. Over-under-over works the best.

However, How many gph are you putting through the sump? If you're not cranking the water through, you could go with just the 2 baffles.

Depending on how high you want them, It's really cheap. I could do acrylic for $materials + a 6 pack of redstripe.

Thanks for replying. My old sump/refugium is too big to fix under my stand...

A six pack is not a problem :splitspin

The overflow I have is Lifereef single up to 700gph I think.
Then it Split to my skimmer and into the sump/refugium.
The return pump is Eheim 1260.

Can all that be done with just a 10gal AGA? :scratchch
