water changes

Hi all, i have a 50 gl bow front i do a 5gl water change every week and everything seems great fish are growing as are the corals but my question is, is it to much of a water change every week or not enough ?

I have a 60 cube with 20 gallon sump. I have about 55 gallons of water. I do between 5 and 10 a week. For me 5% a week is perfect. You can't go wrong with changing more though depending on how you are stocked and what your water parameters look like.

those are the only testers i have at the moment need a better test kit do you know of a brand that is good ?

Good test kits. Red sea, Elos, and salifert. API is ok for alk and cal but is worthless for phosphates or nitrates. .

API is no good for calcium. At least mine was off by 80

wait what are you guys talking about it was off how do you know the new tester is not off

You know it's off when you test it against a more reliable test kit and see the difference in numbers

Weekly 10% water changes are fine. Some reefers do two changes a week 5% each. It really depends what works for you and your tank.
