Hi guys,

Im setting up a 14gallon biocube frag tank. I saw on amazon an aquamana aq 55x3w led light fixture for 170$. Will this be too much light? I dont wanna mount it so itll sit atop the tank. Tank will be mostly lps definitely no sps. Its also dimmable. And if this light wouldnt work, do you have any other suggestions? Thanks**:)

Its exactly 15". Heres the link and I dont care about dimming it as long as it looks good and my corals are happy. AQUAMANA AQ LED-55x3W Dimmable 165W Full Spectrum LED Aquarium Light Panel for Reef, Coral & Fish by Aquamana amazon.com/dp/B00FHDEAFQ/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_0o50sb0RWKXQ5

your gonna need to care cause a 14Bio cube with a 170W is strong. you are gonna need to dim them allot. it will still look good just need to be able to have control.

I meant I dont care (mind) if I had to dim them lol sorry about that and yeah I could dim them and if I ever decide to upgrade I cab always use that light. If I were to get them what should I run them at? Halfway may be too much. Maybe more than 1/4 but a little less than 50%?

The thing is that it is 15" but the optics are 90 degrees so light will shine much wider. I have very similar over my 40 breeder which is 36" long and easily strongly lights 24" at maybe 6-7" above.

Just want to give you my .02 , 170 watt fixture is absurd over a 14g biocube , way too much light , your gunna have to dim it to like 10 percent its really a waste. I suggest investing in a used or even new kessils a150 it is perfect for the biocube i have one on mine and love it , you could also go with one or two par38 bulbs , or a much smaller diy fixture and there are many kits available designed to fit into the biocube 14 hood such as the steves led kits

This is the light. Also berty, I cannot for the life of me solder or do anything what stevesleds would require. Also I dont mind the kissel or pars but I wantdd something that sits on yhe tank and not anythjng on a gooseneck or anything

I understand not everyone can mess with electronics , even without the diy route , i still think a kessil , par bulb , or even a clip on halide would be better , a 70watt halide is plenty for a biocube , your looking at 170w of leds which are comprable to halides , the goosneck isnt bad looking to be honest , instead of leaving my tank open top i gutted the hood and cut out a hole in the center of the hood for light to penetrate and a small cut in the back for the gooseneck and it still has the clean look of a biocube but with a whole lot of light , just for a comparison i believe the kessil 150 are only 32 watts

Also after reading a description of the product they stated the actual power is 2.2watts per LED. It works out to about 120watts total and not 165watts. Thats alot better in my opinion because 50% would be 60 watts
