Old Sand

I shut my tank down for a move about 9 months ago. Im looking to set everything back up. Can I use my old live sand (dead dry sand now) that's been sitting in my garage for the past 9 months, do I have to rinse it or can I just throw it in the tank. Can I mix the old sand with a small bag of new live sand to begin the seeding. Or should I just get new live sand.

Was the sand in a closed container in the garage?
Sand is cheap, but so am I... I'd clean it good, reuse it and add some live sand from someone's tank

me personally don't have the time or patience to clean old dirty sand. i would start with new sand and seed with someones live sand (only the top portion of it)

Tony Im with you, cleaning sand sucks. I was going to just give it a quick rinse and throw it in. Since Im not going to be putting any fishes in for a while I thought it would clean itself out with water changes.

u have to rinse it before u put it in the tank. u Can also mix the old sand with a small bag of new live sand to seeding all. i donnt thing so u need to get all new live sand only.
