? Whats this for and why do you need to shut the skimmer off? If its for bryopsis I didnt do what everyone said. I went up to 1500 and then just dosed to keep the mag at 1450 and it went away. I also got emerald crabs which people say they are a hit or miss but witnessed it eating the bryopsis. I never shut my skimmer or gfo/carbon off
Yes I have like 3 kinds of algae which is weird because its only in one tank and they are all plumbed together. I am going to go up 100ppm until I get to 1800 and maintain for 2 weeks. Probably need a few more gallons.
I didnt go to 1800 because i have read that people started losing zoas and softies going that high. If your not worried go for it or make the kent your main source for mag like I did and it will go away
Word of advice for bryopsis. If you can pull it off, even if you have to sacrifice the rock...TAKE IT OUT!!!! it's a losing battle. But if you do decide to go through, i wish you luck.
I tried pulling it out no dice. Tried two kinds of sea hares, lettuce nudi's and snails. They cleaned out one tank but the other has like I said three types of algae growing. So bizarre.
Had same issues with hair algea and had no luck with snails and seanhares. I tried kent m and it didnt do a whole lot for my hair algea. U look into carbon dosing and using h2o2 for spotting, worked excellently for me. I added a shot of vodka a day for two months and the algea issues went away. I also pulled my moveable rock out and squirted h2o2 on the bad spots and put thenrock right back in, hair algea it contacted died the next day. Messes up sonething with photosystem 2 i think. Just dont directly squirt certain sps, took out a piece of my validia by mistake. Worse thing is if the vodka fails u can always just dose yourself with it till you dont remember the algea.
Don't pull bryopsis off the rocks unless you remove them from the tank first. You will spread the spores.
I just went through this a few mos back. Used Kent Tech M to get rid of it. I did it kinda renegade style, I tested Mg the first 2 days, then just kept dosing the same amount until it was gone...about a month and a half and 2 1/2g of Tech M. (I have 140g TWV and dosed a 1/2 cup of Tech M everyday). I DID take my skimmer offline for the time I was dosing. You should do regular water changes to remove the die off from the bryopsis.
I had minimal negative effects on livestock. You should start to see the bryopsis turn white and start dying after about the first week.
