Are you running any carbon and/or GFO in reactors? That would help, and you'll need to change it often.

You'll need to do large and frequent water changes to get that number down or soon you won't have an SPS left :(

What is your Ca, Alk & Mg numbers?

What is the livestock in this tank and your water change schedule?

Have you siphoned out the garbage in your sump?

Do you use filter socks and change frequently?

Do you have a fuge?

How much live rock is in the tank?

How much sand and do you have a great clean up crew?

I would do a series of 50 gallon water changes (maybe 3) in a week. Yes its 150 in a week but it would be worth it.

Also please check all your levels and recheck your nitrates with a different test kit other then yours before you go crazy.....

Sorry to hear about the emergency. When did the nitrates start to climb? How often do you test water parameters? Is it possible that something died and you haven't noticed? Did somebody toss food into your aquarium without you knowing it? With nitrates that high I would expect algae growth. Do you have a bloom? What is the expiration date on your nitrate test kit? Is the test kit bad?

That's all I have for now.

Test kit is good expiration 7-2014 I do have a lot of red slime test parameters every week ca 450, Mag 1400 nitrates start to climb about a month now just did
A 70g water change again and still reading high between yesterday and to night
130g water change no results

When you changed half the water I would expect a dilution of nitrates at least temporarily, maybe as low as 50 ppm. Another thing to double check is the nitrate level of the fresh saltwater you are adding. Did you change brands or buy a new lot in the last month or two?

If you have kept a fairly constant feeding schedule (I haven't seen your reply to the question about what lives in your aquarium), and water change and other cleaning tasks have occurred with no major changes, I am left with thinking that something is rotting. Have you lost a fish? Have many crabs and snails disappeared? Has a new live rock died?

Double check your test kit. Ask a friend or aquarium store for some tank water to test and determine that your test kit is obtaining similar results. I am not letting the bad test kit hypothesis die just yet even though you report the presence of red slime.

Hopefully we will have a break through idea soon!
