Do you find yourself addicted to this hobby? Are you going for high ends stuff as you become more experience. Do find yourself having the urge to stop by LFS. Time after time. What is it about this hobby? Is it the challenge that we like? Or is it the love of pretty coral and fish. How did you get into this hobby? Would like to know how people got introduced into this hobby. Was it a friend or family member that got you started. :help:

After so many years I just find it as a normal part of my life as I never lived without a tank of some kind. It is a part of me, not challenging or even exciting, just very interesting and something I normally do, like brushing my teeth, (and the teeth of my fish)

It's a bit of everything...

part of normal life... just like Paul B said...it's like brushing your teeth... for me whenever I go to pee in the early morning, i have to look/see my tank.. just normal for my feet to go around and see my tank on moonlight mode.

challenging.... whenever i see green algae, fish that is sick, coral not growing... it is a challenge to find the cause and the solution.... i learn to read a lot about this hobby... dosing, feeding, compatibility of fishes, coral positioning... light schedules.... and list goes on...

addictive... this one is tough... whenever i see another tank that is "better" than mine... it makes me drool... "i need to have that coral"... "i need to have that fish" ... i even learn how to save (hide) money for my next buy... hehehe...

satisfying....i think i have to put this too... at the end of the day, or when everyone's in bed... u just have to sit at the front of the tank, put your legs up and just relax... the soothing sound of the water... the waving hands of the corals/polyps... the "flight" of each fish... just satisfying...

I enjoy the challenge more than anything. There is always something that I'm striving for. Not necessarily a high end coral(I don't buy into a lot of the hype), my challenge is more geared to higher level of health, color, and growth. If we keep topping our ability in all aspects of the hobby, then we keep progressing.

X-2 except I do find trying to keep certain species of fish and coral challenging and still exciting...

+1

It was definitely a challenge when starting up with no prior experience with fresh/saltwater fish. So I decided to start with a mixed reef...

Once you get the hang of things, it becomes so addicting. If I'm near an LFS, I have to stop in. Buy more coral, rearrange, need room, sell coral, buy coral, trade coral, buy coral, sell coral, buy coral, crap I'm out of room again...I need a bigger tank

Always satisfying

Addicted yes, not to crazy with high end stuff but have gained more experience. I got into this hobby because of you and Deola lol. What I love about the hobby is the satisfaction of knowing that I have a piece of the ocean in my living room and that my 2 year old son just stands in front of the tank and speaks to the fish.

The sad part for me is that my wife has to nag me all the time just to vacuum and mop the floors in the house, but I can clean the dust off the stand and canopy, vacuum the detritus in the tank and sump, clean the filter sock in the washer machine (i won't do cloths) without any nagging.
Addictive? I think so. I've tried so many times to leave this hobby, but it keeps pulling me back. I blame the "pulling" on SPS. I don't like the challenging part about it as I'm very lazy to try and diagnose the problem. I have to push myself very hard.
Once I get my tank stable again, I could see myself buying high end corals. If I could afford it.

For me, the hobby was insanely addicting. I've fallen back with time and let things go on naturally. Well to say the least, half of my coral died lol. The challenge is always inspirational but it gets to a person at times, especially by interfering with priorities.

It is very addictive and does cause problems at home hence why so many people lie about the prices and even sneak livestock and equipment into the house thinking that the family will not notice that the skimmer suddenly changed colors and got larger in size all on it's own.

If us human beings had patience and content with what we had we would not want a piece or everything or a fish of every kind.

I am still trying to master the patience and satisfaction part.

The hobby is addiction for those that can accept the maintanance and keep up costs that it requires.

Its a financial challenge and a stability challenge and a self control challenge.

Even when a person can freely afford the hobby, self control and discipline is a major challenge. Ich, flat worms, nudis, bugs, etc in order to avoid such things the challenge is discipline and patience and most of us don't have that.
