Is Reef Crystal dirty?

The following pictures show what is left behind after my 30 gal water change. When the 30gal pail was filled with ro/di water, all the equipment and water was crystal clear. After I mixed in the reef crystal salt you can see that a lot of silt is left behind, is this normal for this salt? I used ESV before switching and i never had this happen to me.

Yeah bro , reef crystals has a lot of silt like bi-products that always tend to stick around after water changes , I only used one bag of it then I abandoned ship quickly!!! Steer clear bro

I use reef crystals and I do get a residue but it is usually whiter than that.

Funny. I opened a new bucket today and I got like this white pellet like stuff in the water. Kind of like the seachem phosgaurd. It felt like alka seltzer in my hand.

i hear a lot of people who use io reef crystals getting them deposits.
i use regular io salt and don't have any of that brown stuff.

I use reef crystals now. It leaves a little white residue in my brute pail after 2-3 water changes. I used red sea coral pro before that and got that nasty brown residue after 1 water change

I get that brown residue as well, but I dont see any bad effects from it in my tank just have to clean more often...I was using IO for many years, but had to boost the levels of Mag and Cal...worth it for me not to add anything anymore.

I get the same thing from RC, I read somewhere that if you keep the temps high you will get more residue, not sure how true it is. I just wipe everything down before the next water change.

I use it now and I get white brownish residue. Usually after a few water changes though like 2-3. Some how your batch seems like it has excessive residue.

When I used RC salt, I got the same stuff, I was told that it is clay that they use as a binder, when making the salt, some salt brands use clay to bind all the ingredients to make the synthetic salt,
With Red Sea Coral Pro, I don?t get that maybe because it?s more of a natural salt.

That brown build up has ceased up all of my pumps in my sump one time or another ever since I started using Reef Crystals and before that, using DD H2Ocean. I have to regularly use ZapCal to get that crap off. I'm seriously looking to switching to ESV seawater system.

I get that as well. I figured it was normal since I used reefcrystals for my last few tanks. Before that I was using Tropic Marine Pro which is a little more pricier. To me, that has been the only downside. My tank does very good and no extra dosing needed to get to my desired parameters.

phoenixOne - the seizures might be from too much calcium during the water change in the water binding to warm surfaces when introduced to your system.
You might also notice this build up on your heaters as well.
