Live vs Dry Sand

Hey Everyone,

Going to be setting up the 40 gallon soon and have been thinking about the cheapest sand to buy. I here mix revewis on live sand how basically its just garbage that forces your tank to cycle and other things...so I think I may just want to get Regular Dry Sand, but seem to can't find any lol. Whats your opinion on live or dry sand? Also how many pounds of sand do you think would be needed just for a .5 inch to 1 inch of sand in a 40 gallon tank? What grain size for sand sifters as well has heavy enough to not get pushed too much?

Here is where Im thinking about buying it...its so cheap even if its live lol. Just found the size chart y I need 50 pounds of sand for a 40 gallon breeder at 1 inch depth.

It is coarser. I am gonna use it on my new build.

i would go with dry special grade like mentioned, and get a cup of live from a friends tank to seed it. i don't think theirs anything live in them bags without air and freezing temps.
i just had dry delivered the bag was freezing.if i ordered live it would of froze and died. if it ever was live.

So true with the live sand, on by 120 build I will be using dry sand so at lease i know wants going in the tank.

i'm using special grade right now. i used dry sand and regretted it. it is filthy. i spent over 9 hours rinsing it out and it was still disgusting. i have a few buckets remaining if you want to come by. it was pre rinsed, removed from my tank(too much sand in my tank..i initially decided to go with a DSB), sitting wet in a bucket.
