Works like a charm. Wash them on the delicate cycle and add a little bit of bleach. DO NOT add detergent. Some people will rinse in RO water, but I just let them air dry. Make sure they air dry completely and then you can use them. Good for the environment and the wallet.

When mine get really grungy, caked with salt and sand, I wash them one time without soap, just to give them a quick rinse. Then I turn them inside out and wash them again no soap, no bleach. I used to turn them inside out before I washed them, but the dried on salt and sand residue would scratch up my hand and arm. I would wait until I had a dozen dirty socks but if you're only doing 1 or 2 then just turn them inside out and wash

I used to wash mine at home in the washing machine until the wife forbid me from doing so.
So now I take them to the laundromat and wash 3 times on extended wash (35 minutes each wash). 1 hot and 2 cold. Then air dry afterwards.

I put used socks in a bucket of RO water and small amount of bleach until the bucket is overflowing with socks. I run the washer machine with nothing in it once then add socks and bleach to the second cycle. After that I put the socks in a bucket of RODI and seachem prime for a day or two. I air dry then use.

I was worried about this too (and could predict my wife having problems with me washing these). I found a thread with a guy making these himself and decided to do that same. If you have a sewing machine and a few minutes you can do this pretty easily. I made about 24 of them out of a yard of felt from JoAnn Fabrics for $2.50 and about a half hour worth of work. Now I just throw them away instead of worrying about cleaning them.

Cool I was actually looking into this I found this guy , I was wondering what kind of thread he used. I am going to eventually make my own. I am trying to figure out what I can use as a rim so it will fit in sock holder.

That's the same video I saw. I do it a little differently and use a bit of rigid airline tubing that I heated and formed in to a circle and I slide in to the sock. I then slide it out when its time to change and then slide it in to the new one. If you want specifics I can PM you details. I might post a thread if there's enough interest?.just need to find some time to write it out and take some photos.

BTW, I just use polyester thread since the felt is 100% polyester as well. No issues yet since I generally change out the sock every 3-4 days.

How are you heating the ridgid tubing?
