Major tank clean up!! ?????

I have a tone of ditrus in my sump and tank and I was planning a major clean up! what I wanted to know is there a way to save the pods an Amphipods that I'am sure will be sucked up!

I was planning to vacuum the sand and and wet dry vacuum the sump area and cleaning the over flow.

does this sound correct or whats the best way to clean ditrus and save pods an Amphipods.

No idea on saving the pods but if you have a lot of detritus I would remove it in stages over a few weeks to minimize any impact it may have. I always try to make changes as gradual as possible just in case.
