What are the Pros and Cons of LFS

Appearances are always nice, but I am more concerned with the health of the livestock and knowledge/attitude of the staff.

the best part of any LFS is the ability to trade livestock for store credit. allows for unlimited expansion in a sense

worst has to be the inflated prices on ALL dry goods

I would love to see a LFS that has a true understanding of the coral and fish that they keep. There are a few stores that know their stuff, but not many at all. Too many vendors and stores see an "opportunity" to capitalize on the name game with corals, and chop shop style fragging. I understand that these LFS have to deal with cut throat pricing from garage vendors with low overhead, but that is the case in every business. Quality and consistency wins every time.

I have to agree with this. Every word. To add a little, with experience and knowledge comes an inflation in price. But I would rather pay a little bit more so in turn I can be educated.


What a tough business. I'm glad I'm just a consumer.
