Kalk reactor question

For people using a kalk reactor how do you determine how much kalk goes into the reactor. Lets say you have a 20 gallon ATO container that feeds the reactor,is it the amount of water in the ATO container which will make it 20 teaspoons in the reactor or is it how much you evaporate in a day which will be 2 1/2 teaspoons a day?

Dam sounds like a lot of work to figure that exact science, I used to just put like 4-5 table spoons in my PM Kalk reactor about every 4-5 days. Worked for my sps tank.

James I think it doesnt matter how much kalk powder u put it the the reactor it can only saturate to a certain amout so lets just say its dkh16 ...no matter hownmuch u put it will never get over that .then it will depened on how much u of the saturated solution u dose to ur tank ..

There, is dif. between Kalkwasser Reactor and Stirr, if u dose ATO, will be hard to anticipate the evaporation, one day is dry (20% hum.), one day is nice (40-50 % Hum.) one day is Hum. ( 90-100 %) so the amount of Kalkwasser will be dif. also, amount of Alk. +Ca will be dif. too. If the alkalinity/calcium balance gets out of whack, it will be necessary to restore the balance through some other means which could affect these agents. So u gone keep testing 3 times per day , never win. I think is much easy (more precise) to feed the Reactor (Stir in my case) w/RO/Di , 30 mil. (in my case)then go easy on Alk. and Ca. to balance, try find how much Alk. and Ca your tank spend .The main point is : dose slowly (were the Kalk. enter, is a big change on PH) dose in big water flow area (next to Protein Skimmer) dose at night (this way, u balance the PH) try to avoid dose cloudy sol. (Kalk + Water) this way try to avoid precipitation, that the main dif. between Kalk. Reactor and Kalk. Stir, I prefer stir the water is clear, then , go into water column very easy , more pure, more efficient, less aggressive, there is a good reason why KM500T Kalkwasser Stirrer ask for that money. The only place where air enter is in one elbow (hole size 1/32") even the motor case is seal. I'm no expert but ... that my opinion.:smile:
