+1 on the skimz dc ... Strong skimmer plus has a small footprint and comes with the pump and controller , my opinion out performs the octopus which I had and hated it..

And I am going to go against the flow and say that I've been extremely satisfied with my Bubble King Mini 160. I've has cone skimmers, recirculating skimmers and what not and nothib beats Red Dragon Pump in terms of pumping air-water mix. It's a large and expensive skimmer, but well worth it. And now for some shameless advertising- since I broke my tank I have one for sale, check my sale thread.
On the other hand, I've also heard Seaside aquatics Cs1 is a good skimmer.

One thing about the Avast is the ability to easily turn it into a recirculating skimmer. The efficiency of it in recirc mode IMO would put it above those models mentioned. Having owned an Itech 200, Diablo XS200, NAC6 a warner K2 and a Vertex Omega 150 the Avast was easily the best out of those followed by the Vertex and than the Itech. I know Jerl has owned some of the best skimmers made and after a week with my Avast I never got it back lol
