Ok I got it. Doesn't matter where I cut the coral it won't die. I just don't want to see it get sucked up in the overflow. I don't know a thing about fragging or harvesting broccoli thats why I'm asking. If anyone wants the piece I cut they can have it.
I'm going to use that even in non-reef related instances, whether it makes sense or not because that there is funny!
I'm not a fragger either so after my colony of waving hand xenia got out of control I simply grabbed the coral and pulled in seperate directions then let nature and physics decided what happened next. NOTE-do not try that with zoanthids unless you add this step---look away while pulling. That toxin is no joke!.

best way to frag that is in a blender and just in case strap an M80 to the stem and light it on fire. Ive heard instances when people cant get rid of the those things even by scraping the rock or burning it.
