I am planning on taking a larger piece out of my girlfriends 4 gallon cube and adding 2 smaller pieces. I think it would look better this way..I have the rocks but they are dry so I put them in my established tank for them to cure. How long do you think I should wait to switch them without creating a problem or spikes of any sort in her tank? Any input helps thanks

I would place the dry rock in a bucket with a powerhead/heater. The dry rock will leach unwanted nutrients during curing so it'd be best to keep that out of your display tank. Add a bit of live rock from your established tank into the bucket to speed up the process. Add a source of ammonia and test regularly then you'll be able to know for sure when the process is complete.

It's such a small piece though going in my tank only like a pound or two I figured it would cause very little harm and thought it would cure faster in an established tank rather than a bucket

You may be right about it not affecting your tank much if it's so small but then I'm not sure how you could tell if it's cured unless you're not in a rush and wait several weeks to play it safe.

It seems like this small amount of rock is going to be your only means of bio filtration in the nano tank so it's a risky move for the livestock in there.

No matter how you do it, if something goes wrong, you will be blamed for it. So, with that notion in mind and your level of patience, you can chart your course using the advice I see coming in from forum members. Good Luck!

A week. I will then add it to her tank and leave one piece of her rock with the rock you had in your tank. After a week remove her rock.

Lol dan very true either way I'm either taking too long or I mess it up lol...sharkbait that sounds like a decent idea I think I will try that, she has two pieces in there now I'll put the new ones in a couple of days, they've already been in my tank, then wait a little bit and take out the one I don't want
