so I have my QT setup with a 250 watt heater, I thought it would be enough to keep temp at 78 degree.

I just got home with 3 new fish that were supposed to go in the QT. Well the temp of the QT is 70 degrees only!!

I placed the 3 fish in my sump to retain their water temperature. I also added a 300 watt, 250 watt, and 200 watt heater to my QT.

How long can the fish stay in the bags for before it is unsafe? I picked them up this morning approximately 9:30 AM in Freehold, NJ from a person breaking down their tank and got them floating in my sump since around 11:30.

Thanks!

A lot of marine fish travel from the other side of the world in a bag which takes more than a couple hours. Good move keeping them in the sump for now until the QT gets warmer. I'd shut off any light you have in the stand in case you have fuge in there.

How big is the QT?? It's good that you had spare heaters lying around, I keep one as well just in case one of mine ever goes down. Keep monitoring the temp of the QT and start dripping them as soon as it reaches that point.

Tank reached the temp quickly, they are currently dripping as we speak. Everyone seems to be doing a-okay.

I plan on removing 2 of the heaters and keeping a 300 watt in there w/ a 250 watt. I think that should do it.

Good that you had extra heaters. I had a somewhat similar incident and didn't have extra heaters about a month ago. I had only a 125W heater that I used for mixing water and I had pulled it to setup my QT. Then I had to make water for an emergency for the DT and had no spare heater and the newly mixed water was 60 degrees! I ended up boiling RODI!
Now I have an extra 300W just in case. Besides I can't ever use the QT heater to make new water again.

Btw, I always check salinity and temp of the bags and sometimes it's pretty close to 70 degrees in the bag...so in this case if the water in the bag was or is close to 70....

Well in the process of getting the QT up to temp I found that one of my jager heaters sticks on, at least I know now and it did the job.

I dripped the fish doubling the volume of the water they were in and they are currently in the QT.

I actually asked the guy I bought them from what salinity he kept his tank at to match my QT to it.

I'm going to see if jager will warranty the one heater for me, if not I use it to heat my saltwater anyway.
