I havent updated this in a while but a couple of weeks ago I got some free frags from Charlie1 - kenya tree, toadstool and GSP. Everything was doing well and opened up within a few days. Fast forward three weeks. I went away for a week so last Thursday I did a 50% WC with store bought distilled water. ( BTW since doing that I havent had much of that red stringy cyano so that was good ). Beforehand though, I tested the water and everything was at 0, pH was at 8.2, SG at 1.025 and Alg at 3.5 meq/l. I come in this morning and i have these tufts of green algae everywhere, but most distressingly, surrounding ( though it doesnt appear to be much directly on ) the Kenya tree frag. The frag, though, looks like crap. It is closed and limp, shriveled ( keep your jokes to yourselves ). I dont know what happened. I will wait to see if this improves when the lights turn on. Any suggestions ?

I will try to post a pic in a bit but its a green brush like algae and it has spread all over my rock overnite. I have left the lights off for a day as that has helped with a previous algae outbreak. I didnt use a TDS meter ( I dont own one and after reading some articles I dont believe that they are really necessary ) but the water was distilled water bought from a supermarket. I am glad though to report that the Kenya tree has started to stiffen up a bit and that leads me to believe that maybe it was the 50% WC that stressed it but I dont know why that would lead to an algae outbreak especially with the water params I listed.

Oh and Charlie thanks again for the frags. The toadstool is doing well. The GSP has been up and down but at least the mat hasnt receded and the Kenya was doing great until a couple of days ago but it seems to be recovering.
