I'm looking at this too. Idk but the Pros only have the additional yellow LEDs right? It's not worth the extra $100 IMO. I wish they would add some warm whites rather than keep the cool whites

Comparison

I have two gen 3 pros on my tank (450 gallon) along with two gen 2 lights (which I have not yet upgraded). The gen 3 pros have much greater intensity and appear whiter when set to full spectrum. I will be upgrading the gen 2 just havent gotten around to taking them off the tracks to ship in for upgrade.

since you have them both on one tank, do you have any comparison pics??

If you're into SPS, guys with the G3 are seeing far better results. Many negative reviews from the G2 (SPS related). I used a G2 for 4-5 months and couldn't get it off my tank fast enough.

Is that the g3 unit or the g3 upgrade pack? I was thinking of getting the g3 upgrade pack. or does it not make a difference? I have a mostly LPS and zoa tank. I was thinking about maybe starting with a couple easy sps in the next couple of months.

Not really sure which g3's If you search this light on this site, and several others, you will see for yourself. If you're not SPS dominated I don't think it makes a difference anyway. Many brands/types of lighting will work for you.

Warren, it's the G2 spectrum that seems to be problematic but there's always someone having success with an LED fixture, while others burn their corals with no real explanation. I choose to stay away period :)

Pics coming

I will try to get some pics this weekend. At full intensity there is a HUGE difference and even at lower intensities, the gen 3 are much more balanced and white, then the gen 2 which are much bluer. With just gen 2 on the tank u dont notice how blue they are, but the gen 3 are much more daylight.

since you have them both on one tank, do you have any comparison pics??

G2s not likely the problem, but acclimation is

The secret in my opinion is that you have to acclimate the corals even more so to LEDs, just as you would changing any type of light or even replacing bulbs. Having had MH the switch was not that big, and the new acclimation settings in the program allow for the lights to slowly ramp up making gradual changes each day.

I now have two gen 2's with the wide angle lens. I switched from an 8x54w ati sunpower. I have to say I am much happier with the LEDs especially with the wide angle lens.
