I'm getting ready to dive head first into corals. Is kalwasser really necessary? Or is it mainly used with large amounts of corals? Reading up most people use this to replace there top off water. Can be used to raise both calcium and alkalinity but lowers ph. Would this be a alternative to the esv 2 part dosing or is this cheaper and better?

Kalkwasser is calcium hydroxide. It is very basic and raises the pH. It increases calcium levels a small amount, limited by the fact that the pH increases a lot with small additions. Large adjustments in alkalinity or calcium are done with two part products and/or water changes. If your animals are not consuming much calcium, kalkwasser might be useful.
