Wiring my fixture

I need to know the wiring coming out of a PFO ballast, there is a white, black and green wire. I can never remember household wiring. Is it,
White-hot (one side of bulb)
Black-common (one side of bulb0
Green-ground (to the fixture itself)
My fixture does not have a ground wire, but I can drill a hole to mount a ground lug and wire to it.
How far off am I?

WRONG.

Black is hot.
White is Neutral
Green is ground.

On the same subject how are you making your connections/splices? Just tape or connectors and tape?

I was going to solder and heat shrink them.

Cool gotta wore a ballast in my hood too was gonna start another thread and magically yours popped up

Black is Hot,
White is Common,
Green is ground

Just don't lick your fingers to check if its live.
