What test kit and salt are you using? Very weird that after a water change your alk is that low. Your best bet is to buy esv part A and B the gallon size. Buy a couple of dosers from BRS and start dripping. Forget about manual dosing, it's a pain in the ***, and it's never accurate.

Whats your ph like and is the tank near any high co2 sources (like furnace, kitchen, etc?) is skimmer intake fed from outside? Co2 levels in the air will make a big impact on the level of alk you can maintain.

Each aquarium is different...
Dosing Equal amount of alk and ca not gonna work for everybody.
I like to keep ca under 400 and alk about 8 so I dose only alk everyday and ca mostly from weekly water changes. Sometimes I need to add 50ml of ca.
