Upgrading Tank

I am upgrading from my 29 gallon to a 300 gallon tank. My equipment for the 29 gallon is basic. What can I use from my old tank?

1. aquaclear 70
2. 100 watt aquion heater
3. glass thermometer
4. 20 pounds of live sand
5. 15 pounds of rock
6. 1 t8 bulb. fixture that comes with the starter kit.

I read that using the same sand can be deadly to the fish.

Rinse it... I've reused live sand many times without problems

Honestly I would just reuse that sand and seed your new sand with it. Will be such a small amount in that 300 anyways.

I appreciate the advice. Do I use fresh or saltwater to rinse it? Do I just do a quick rinse or should I rinse it alot?

If you want to keep it as 'live sand', then rinse with saltwater...

How well should I rinse the samd? I don't want to rinse all the bacteria away. I got the tank July 4 2012.

What i would do is stir up the sand before you transfer, get everything in the water column then dump all the water and use the sand. Unless you think it is that dirty it needs an extra round or two
