@Vio. I really dnt understand how u keep giving advice on reefing anymore. U r 1 of the people that change ur opinions EVERYTIME YOU are trying something else. First it was "NO sand" everything was fix with NO sand in ur tank now u have sand in ur new tank ( and many other things). Now u saying u dont trust APEX??? Really???
Back to topic....... I have been using a reactor on my sps tank and is been working pretty good so far. Yeah the affluent valve clogs but that why i keep extras (just like filter socks). Usually reactors are set and forget so maybe is something not right with urs. But at the end every tank is different and what works for others may not work for u. If u can afford to try dosing pumps (or manually) then go ahead and find for ur self.

The way I did it before was I had a medical tube with one of those regulators and I would fill up a gallon water bottle with mixed calc and mag with ro water and drip it at 1 drop per every 5 seconds and it worked great. I decided to try reactor and it works good but seems to be so much more maintainance. I agree its too big for my system but thought i could just regulate it.

On the topic of Vio, I am the same way because even though some tanks are at home and some at work they are all different. Only way to know is to try yourself.

I use a bubble Magnus and also check up on the dosing everyday.. Meaning it doses every hr.. (10 min apart alk n cal) so I just check to see if it's working.. Once in a while I found my calcium airline completely dry and not pulling thd calcium.. Every yr or sooner I buy new dosing plugs or whatever they are called.., with anything else in this hobby, I think observation is the most important.. But like I said people swear by both.. This is the one I'm really comfortable with... I'm sure more people will chime in.

Exactly my point!! Now u "experimenting with lots more flow" and thats ur way to compensate the use of sand. Again u give advise according to what u are "experimenting" with at the moment. I bet if some1 ask how to control phosphates u gonna suggest 4 mp40 and other stuff. But weeks ago ur ONLY suggestion was "NO SAND".
Mayb u gotta read ur own posts.
What i was trying to point out is that a good advise should NOT come from some1 that change his methods all the time but from people that been doing the same for long time and it work.
Having a full tank grow out from frags is success rather then buying colonies all the time.

Lol in closing thanks to all that chimed in and Vio is one of a few people I really trust in this hobby. I greatly appreciate everyone for telling me straight. Now I am going to transfer the reactor to the 120 and make it a mixed reef and go back to dosing the 55. Again thanks MR for all the help.

I prefer a quality dosing pump (not a POS bubble magnus) and 2 part dosing. I also Kalk + vinegar to keep up with calcification demands + PH stability. IMO there is less that can go wrong with this method.

Jackson what do you recommend as far as dosing pumps? Why don't u like the bm? Mine has been good.. I got it after a lot of research.. What's a better pump I'll keep a look out for the future. Thanks!

Don't like the BM because it was always dosing way off the ml setting. I was constantly changing heads. After several head changes i contact customer service and they were absolutely useless, actually a little rude. They won't get my money anymore. I recommend the GHL. It's bulletproof and the customer service is top notch.

Ok sounds good Jackson and tony.. I have tested the dosage amounts in the past.. They were accurate.. I also count the seconds when it doses.. I will check again.. When I test my parameters they are spot on.. I screwed myself when I went overboard on vinegar dosing which lowered alk.. Now I just dose 30ml vinegar a day.. But that's a different topic.,
