I'm thinking of get back into reef keeping, it's been about five years since my last tank. I'm looking for advice. I was thinking of going with a JBJ 45 gallon rimless tank with their 108w lighting fixture. Do I need a skimmer, uv sterilizer?
Here's the links to the tank & light. Figure it's about $1000 for this.... Cheaper options lmk... Thanks for the help

Hi
Ino yes you need a skimmer. UV if you reed about it here that is pandoras box. I used one in the beginning. But after about a year i took it out. I do regular maintaince and 10 percent water changes every week. I dont have an issue. I am sure i will get slamed for the statement but what works for me may not work for you.

It really depends what type of coral yiu plan on keeping....I have all softies and maybe 2 pieces of beginner sps....I have a 110 long and I do not use a UV sterilizer or skimmer. I also only do a 20g water change once every 2 months.....like Mr Dobie said...what works for me, might not work for you
....why not do what you were doing before you took a break?

I had a 90 gallon, with a sump, skimmer, metal halides. I don't have the room, cash or time for something that big. I just had a son & really want him to experience a reef tank. What do you guys think of the JBJ set up listed. Seem decent? No?
