I have a reef tank for over 8 years. I have gone from softies to LPS and have gradually moved into the SPS world, with success. I understand the benefits of having a cleanup crew and didnt mind them knocking things around with softies and a few lps but it hurts with the fragile SPS.

I do glue or epoxy frags down but the sea urgent, hermits or turbo snails eventually knock them loose and fall between rock scape or the urchin takes them for a ride and the frag will disappear.:irked:

To my point.....Do SPS keepers rely less on the clean up crew and more on the water changes??

Should i ditch the urchin and larger snails?

Any guidance is much appreciated.

i often wonder if a cu crew is that beneficial, being it is a living thing and does consume waste and create waste.
i lost quite a few sps frags from getting knocked over and falling into a hammer or another coral. i don't have urchins but i I'm getting rid of the turbos.

That's where i am leaning towards - I figured i am doing the weekly WC anyway perhaps get rid of urchin and turbos but keep small hermits and smaller snails.

Interested to here other opinions as well.
